Ustawi Kenya is a civic-innovation powerhouse designed for the 2020s. We are not a traditional "delivery" NGO that simply provides services; we are a technical and social architect that builds the infrastructure for accountability. We operate at the intersection of grassroots mobilization and digital innovation, functioning as a bridge between the people’s lived reality and the state’s constitutional obligations.

At our core, we are specialists in evidence. We believe that the most powerful tool for a woman in a rural ward or a youth in an informal settlement is undeniable, community-led data. We are pioneers of inclusion, moving beyond the "checklist" to ensure that persons with disabilities and marginalized groups are the lead designers of their own advocacy. Whether we are brokering a new Social Contract with County Governments or deploying digital tools to track climate funds, we are defined by our "With, Not For" philosophy. We are a collective of strategists who believe that sustainable prosperity—Ustawi—only happens when the distance between those who make the laws and those who live by them is closed for good. Ustawi Kenya was born in 2023 from a simple, stubborn observation: while laws and policies in Kenya are often world-class, the lived reality of the citizen remains disconnected from the promises of the state. We saw "awareness" campaigns that didn’t lead to change and "inclusion" efforts that were merely symbolic. We knew there was a better way—one that moved from working for communities to building with them.

Our story is rooted in the belief that prosperity (Ustawi) isn't something granted by a project; it is something claimed through accountability. We realized that the bridge between a dry tap and a government budget, or a climate crisis and a local solution, was evidence and leadership. We launched Ustawi to be the catalyst for that bridge. By fusing the "lived expertise" of women, youth, and persons with disabilities with modern technological tools, we began redefining the social contract. Today, we aren't just an NGO; we are a collective of technologists, advocates, and community leaders dedicated to ensuring that the frontlines of our nation's challenges are also the frontlines of its solutions.
